Johan has over seventeen years of experience in the financial services industry. He has experience in corporate restructuring, leveraged loan investments, distressed debt investments and private equity investments.
Prior to joining Affin Hwang Asset Management Berhad in June 2016, Johan was attached to Affin Investment Bank Berhad (Affin Hwang Investment Bank Berhad’s predecessor company) which he joined in 2012. As the Group Chief Strategy Officer, Johan was instrumental in leading the merger between the Affin Investment Banking Group and the Hwang DBS Investment Banking Group in 2014, which resulted in the creation of the Affin Hwang Capital Group.
Prior to joining Affin Investment Bank, Johan previously worked for HSBC Group in Malaysia, and prior to that, he worked in the United Kingdom for several leading investment houses including HIG Capital, Highland Capital and Barings Investments (formerly Babson Capital Europe). Johan started his career at Arthur Andersen’s (subsequently acquired by Ernst and Young) Corporate Restructuring division in London.
In addition to being a board member of Bintang Capital Partners Berhad, Johan is also a board member of entities in the Bitsmedia Pte Ltd group.
Johan holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics, as a Chevening Scholar. He is also a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) with the Institute of Chartered Accountant of England and Wales (ICAEW), as well as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder.
