Bitsmedia is the company behind Muslim Pro, the world’s leading mobile phone app serving the Muslim community in all 195 countries in the world. The app is available in over 15 major languages, including Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Malay and Urdu.

 

Bitsmedia has a pan-ASEAN presence with satellite offices in both Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta, anchored by its headquarters in Singapore.

 

Launched in 2010, Muslim Pro has presently achieved in excess of 145 million downloads and more than 25 million Monthly Active Users (“MAUs”). The app derives its revenue primarily from in-app advertising and premium subscription fees. The app provides users with information on prayer times, fasting times (during Ramadan), the Qibla’ direction, the Quran (available in over 40 translations), and a directory of nearby mosques.

This buyout transaction was completed via SPV in conjunction with CMIA Capital Partners in July 2017.

In December 2022, Bintang completed its follow-on investment into Bitsmedia via BCP Asia Fund I to support Bitsmedia’s launch of Qalbox.

Qalbox is a global subscription video on demand (“SVoD”) entertainment streaming service celebrating Muslim identities and cultures worldwide, including content within and adjacent to the Muslim community to reflect the community’s diverse narratives and stories. Qalbox is part of Bitsmedia’s mission to build an ecosystem of services that will become the digital home for all things Muslims. 

Bintang’s investment in Bitsmedia is in recognition of the twin trends of increasing internet and mobile penetration globally, as well as a fast-growing Muslim youth population. Bintang also sees an opportunity to close the current gap within Muslim-themed entertainment through the launch of Qalbox.

Bintang’s investment is also anchored on the intention to build a platform that provides educational religious content as well as wholesome and uplifting entertainment to the global Muslim audience in an effort to promote stronger tolerance and harmony between global communities. We are also excited by the prospect of being able to provide employment opportunities to those within the technology development, media, entertainment and marketing industries though the growth of the Bitsmedia platform.
