Unveiling Bintang Capital Partners' First Impact Principles Disclosure Statement

A year ago today, Bintang Capital Partners became the first Malaysian private equity firm to sign up to the Impact Principles.

We remain the only Malaysian signatory to date.

And as a signatory to the Impact Principles, Bintang is pleased to announce that we have now published our first Disclosure Statement!

The statement affirms that Bintang has established policies and procedures to ensure that we are aligned with the Impact Principles. It describes Bintang’s Triple-I Strategy and impact management systems which are enshrined in our proprietary Responsible and Sustainable Investment Policy (“RSI Policy”) (available here: https://shorturl.at/ghntS).

The Disclosure Statement has been independently verified by BlueMark, an impact verification specialist (the Verifier Statement is available here: https://shorturl.at/ioFP8).

The Firm applies its RSI Policy when assessing the impact of its investments under its maiden fund, BCP Asia Fund I (“BCPAF I”). Investees of BCPAF I currently include CARE Concierge (Social Impact – Healthcare), Bitsmedia (Social Impact – Digital & Socioeconomic Inclusivity; Education), Involve Asia (Social Impact – Digital & Socioeconomic Inclusivity), WatchBox | The 1916 Company (Environmental Impact – Circular Economy) and Blue Planet Environmental Solutions (Environmental Impact – Climate & Environmental Solutions).

Upon signing up to the Impact Principles, we have achieved several milestones:

·      May 2023:

Bintang obtained B Corp Certification from B Lab, becoming the first B Corp certified private equity firm in Southeast Asia.

·      August 2023:

Care Concierge and Involve Asia were featured in the 2023 Forbes Asia 100 To Watch list which spotlights companies on the rise across the Asia-Pacific region.

·     September 2023:

Bintang won the Innovative Investment Award at the ASEAN Business Awards 2023 organised by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN BAC) Council – the award is an endorsement of the Firm’s Triple-I Strategy as well as the Firm’s unique impact proposition with regards to propagating B Corporations in Southeast Asia;

Bintang won the Environmental Finance's Sustainable Company Awards - 2023 Global SME of the Year prize, with specific mentions from the judging panel on the Firm’s practices including “[holding] the assets in its portfolio up to a high ESG performance standard and [its focus] on transparency” and its “JEDI [Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusivity] metrics and programmes [having] strong social equity considerations in place”; and

Bintang was part of the working group which contributed to the community report titled “Mobilizing Investments for Clean Energy in Malaysia” published by the World Economic Forum, in collaboration with Khazanah Nasional Berhad and the Khazanah Research Institute.
